Re: Thoughts on the Season to date
i want to say a word we gotten to the point where since 2005 they been forecasting a Armageddon Hurricane season with a Category 5 impacting every city with catastrophic economic impacts such as the next Rita to take out the oil refernies with gas prices to rise to $10 a gallon or the new Long Island express to put wall street under water ,the media is still playing Katrina politics by trying to compared the evacuees at qualcomm stadium in San Diego to conditions at the superdome which is absurd for one reason the big difference between the two was high and dry at Qualcomm its easy to get supplies in in NO you couldn't do that why?The superdome was surrounded by water.a below average season doesn't mean we let our guard down 1992 comes to mind a what happened in 1992 all i'll say is his name start with the letter "A" as in angry .

Re: Thoughts on the Season to date
I notice some of the below average seasons were also the deadliest.
1900-Great Galveston Hurricane (12,000 dead) (7/3/2, ACE: 84)
1928-Okeechobee Hurricane (+4,000 dead) (6/4/1, ACE: 75)
1930-1930 Dominican Republic hurricane (8,000 dead) (2/2/1, ACE:39)
Some of the most active seasons recorded were not all deadly.
1995-150 dead (19/11/5, ACE: 228)
1936-6 dead (16/7/1, ACE: 118)
1887-1 dead (19/12/2, ACE:182)
All death tolls are direct and indirect deaths. Also, all the storms prior to 1944 are just recorded and likely more storms formed in those years.

Re: Thoughts on the Season to date
The only thing I will remember from the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season will be Cat-5 hurricanes Felix and Dean. Outside of those two historic hurricanes the 2007 was a dud, which was a good thing.....MGC

With all due respect, that statement doesn't make sense. +90% of all recorded seasons are "duds" if you take out the two strongest storms.

From the tracker's point of veiw, I have thoroughly enjoyed this season. I learned a lot, got a lot of links, met a lot of people, and discovered s2k, which I fell in love with.
I was on the boards when Dean hit land, I was in the chat when Felix bombed (most memorable s2k moment thusfar, BTW). I learned about Diurnal maximum, I learned about SHIP and GFDL and all kinds of models. This year, tracking-wise, has been the best year for me so far.

I learn something new every season. I will also only remember Dean and Felix for the 2007 season. I wish we could of had some tropical rains for the SE US, but it didn't materialize this year.

I agree, as a tracker I've enjoyed tracking this season. Alot of intresting storms. And alot of memories (watching Dean make landfall and Felix bomb out in the chatroom).
Sadly, it came at the cost of alot of lives and damage. My prayers go out to all of those affected this season.

Here are my estimates for the remaining storms without the TCR's done:
Dean - 145 kt/906mb (well-covered at landfall peak)
Erin - 50 kt/997mb (inland peak! - 35 kt/1002mb over water)
Felix - 150 kt/927mb (slightly stronger as it was still strengthening at the coverage hole)
Karen - 70 kt/991mb (accounting for considerable decaying in structure when 62 kt was recorded)
Noel - 90 kt/967mb (I think it was still tropical to Atlantic Canada)
Dean - 145 kt/906mb (well-covered at landfall peak)
Erin - 50 kt/997mb (inland peak! - 35 kt/1002mb over water)
Felix - 150 kt/927mb (slightly stronger as it was still strengthening at the coverage hole)

Noel - 90 kt/967mb (I think it was still tropical to Atlantic Canada)

It looked like it went from tropical to extratropical, back to tropical/subtropical, then finally extratropical.
I don't know.
The initial cold front was certainly extratropical; I think it may have started tropical transition in the Gulf Stream but restarted extratropical transition before making landfall, around New England area.
