06z GFS has TD 9 approaching the 26th latitude by 1 PM CT, I don't think is going to happen, TD 9 is still not moving this morning. Ridging to the north must still be strong this morning.

1001mb TD? Interesting...there are people in harm's way who think this is a TD. They will go to work and not realize until it is evening and dark what may be coming. Do we really need recon to upgrade it? It is likely a TS. We have upgraded less.

I have not checked the recent schedule, but with a system this close to landfall, I would think they would have Recon ready to fly in frequently at this juncture.

recon is short handed a bit. Canes near Hawaii are occupying them

Surreal. Look at that storm on IR. You're telling me that's only a TD? I've said it already but something is very wrong when NHC won't upgrade THAT.

Sat presentation sure looks good. I think recon will finally find tropical storm winds this morning.

Hey, I get it. The blowup is like golf...driving for show. Convection alone does not a system make. There is hardly and banding and the tower is heading S...which may mean a collapse could happen. I just think we should name it.

They keep wasting the AF recons to TD 8 which is not going to affect any land areas.

There have been many storms throughout the year that looked amazing but either lacked winds or a had strong winds but lacked true llc. Trust me if the NHC had the evidence, they would have upgraded by now. Recon will tell the complete story. :D

Does anyone know when recon is supposed to head out? Already at about 3 inches since 4 am here in St Petersburg.

Yeah, I just read that Recon currently had mechanical issues before take off. It is now in route. I have to think they will find Hermine when they get in the system. But, then again, I have thought like this a couple of times already and been totally deceived by satellite presentation with TD 9

There's nothing wrong with the NHC. They are the best of the best at what they do. They won't name a storm just because it looks good on IR or on any satellite presentation. The storm must meet certain criteria to be named and apparently that criteria hasn't been met yet. So just relax and let the experts do their job.

I'm sure the NHC is just as frustrated with this thing as we are.

This is a discussion board. It wouldn't be hurricane season without a good old fashioned cranky armchair quarterback session. And I am cranky this morning.

Trough could bring this east instead of Northeast.

This is not a lab that rewards you for getting it exactly right. There are people in the way who been complacent for years in FL. If it is not even named they will continue to ignore it. Bumping 5mph is not a great scientific tragedy. It raises awareness to the proper levels. People are working and will ignore until this evening. The job of the NHC is to protect our people first. We can't argue about 5 mph if one life can be saved by hours more lead time with a named storm.

Probably more frustrated than cranky and I get it :D I just don't like it when anyone diminishes the ability of the NHC. They have a tough job and they do a great job always!
