Texas Snowman wrote:Figured this was probably coming - the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has temporarily closed fishing along the Texas Gulf Coast. As noted here before, the December 1983 freeze (and to a lesser extent, the two freezes in 1989) nearly wiped out redfish along many portions of the Texas Gulf Coast. Others dating all the way back to the 1800s and beyond have done the same.

This freeze could be as bad and I’m afraid a severe fish kill could be coming down on the saltwater flats. Sure hope not.

Could also be a big shad kill at Lake Texoma and other Texas reservoirs where threadfin shad are the main forage base for largemouth bass, stripers, etc. This will be likely be very hard on numerous fish and wildlife species across Texas.

Some actually went out and bagged up a lot of fish. My dad got several calls about free Redfish.

Crazy for the little creatures this week

Every flake is being added to the total. Usually when a car drives by the snow melts a little in your normal snow event, but makes no difference in this. It just flies.

Southwest and American are canceling many flights right now.

From the Dallas Morning News: “Nearly 500 flights have been canceled at DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field as airlines brace for unusual winter weather in North Texas that is only expected to worsen as the day goes on.”

It just keeps wanting to snow despite not looking like it. It's easy to snow in such cold depths.

Right now feels like a day up in the mountains when it wasn't supposed to snow but you get flurries & showers all day. This is nice but ready for the main event :cold:

Will be interesting to see what precip type Houston ends up getting the most of. Wishing them as few power outages as possible.

Dew point IMBY going up a bit as snow gets heavier. Still single digits but bumped humidity to 65%.

I'm closing in on 1.5-2" IMBY and can literally almost walk to the airport recording site. So DFW must be nearing 2".

Blizzard Warnings are now unlikely

But, the conditions are going to be just shy of meeting the all the requirements for a Blizzard . . .

Arguably it's been snowing the longest right over the snow hole. Ironic. Exactly where the sun came out yesterday.

In East Dallas by Buckner and 30 we got dry slotted several times overnight as bands and cells of snow just barely skipped around us. We have like a quarter inch on the ground now.

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

Summer's for hibernation, Winter’s my vacation

Don't use my posts as forecast, I'm a complete meteorology noob! I just like cold weather, alright?

All observations I post are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

Yes. Short range models now actually intensify it as it passes through.

Mother Natures way of saying I'm sorry for taking us just above freezing yesterday?
