If Gustav makes landfall in LA, it'll be the first August hurricane in history to do so from the general position of where Gustav is now historically... almost always historically storms in this position make landfall in Texas or MX... not saying it can or can't happen in LA, just noticing that it would be a first...


It won't make land fall in August, Monday is September...

A few of those were probably September landfall storms as well...

I think it refers to any hurricane whose genesis was in August. Could be wrong, though. Still interesting nonetheless.

Anyway, it looks like Gustav is now a Cat 2. The pressure will be interesting to see if it dropped.

85 kt is my guess, since the SFMR was only 76 even though FL winds support 90.

Wow... Gus should fill the Gulf nicely in a day or two. I think almost everyone on the Gulf Coast is going to get *something* from Gus- waves, riptides, wind, etc.

DATA FROM AN AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT
GUSTAV CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN AND NOW HAS MAXIMUM WINDS NEAR 100
MPH...155 KM/HR WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THIS MAKES GUSTAV A CATEGORY TWO
HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE SCALE.

Because the eye pass wasn't made until around 2:20am, and the winds in the northern eyewall were found around 2:06am...whereas the 2am advisory went out about 10 minutes before those winds were found. Regardless, they've issued the update product now so it's all good.
