Re: ATL: EMILY - Tropical Storm - Discussion
I'm new to recon data (so please excuse me if I'm incorrect) but it looks like they picked up 54mph and 56mph data.

My posts should NEVER, EVER, EVER be construed as an official forecast as I know virtually nada respecting the finer points of meteorology. Consequently, my posts are obviously NOT endorsed by any professional institution or the good folks at storm2k.org. For official information please refer to the weather gurus at the NHC and NWS.
Re: ATL: EMILY - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Amazing how things evolve and shape in the tropics. Emily is a bit behind in time as to where it was supposed to be by August 4th according to the earlier NHC predictions...the southern Bahamas. haiti is about to get it today (Aug. 4th) and then move near the Bahamas while still weak probably after getting a little interrupted by Haiti. I would watch Florida now that they may also be near Emily on the 7th if this keeps up. Perhaps it could become a more significant issue for Florida if its forward movement is slow enough that it nears by August 7, Sunday and then head up to the Carolinas by 8/8-8/10. Just my honest opinion.

You are correct as that data was measured by the SFMR instrument. However, that data was in a part of the storm that had a heavy rain-rate so it is what we call "rain contaminated" and is most likely not accurate.

What are they flying at anyway? Whats the reduction? The one that ended in 00 wasn't contaminated.

The winds are in knots.
Also interesting that the 49 knot and 54 knot winds are not flagged...I would be interested in seeing a dropsonde launched in this area. Probably convection induced and nothing, but you never know.

No VDM yet, they haven't even reached the center yet. Current Zulu time is 0548. +4 hours to EDT.

Re: ATL: EMILY - Recon
Use this Google Earth file for the floater:
http://tropicalatlantic.com/temp/2011/0 ... loater.kmz
It will only work until the floater is repositioned and then the file will be useless. Unfortunately you can't have an automatic Google Earth file for floaters because you don't know the coordinates to position the image at by automatic means.
