Just got out to my "manual" rain gauge to check the precip total overnight. Had to bring it inside and use a hair dryer to thaw out the ice in the funnel. Total precip with the event so far in SW Houston is 0.08". That's not far from the .1 to .13" the GFS and NAM were forecasting. Unfortunately, the warm layer aloft prevented it from falling as about an inch of snow.

I have 6 inches on the ground here and with one more band on the way I'm thinking I might top at 7 or 8 inches and that is just ridiculous.

As someone mentioned earlier only other time I've seen this much snow was last year. EVERYTHING is covered.

It's just begining in Keller, give it another 20minutes before the heavy snow moves in that will stick around for atleast 30, followed by lighter snow.

It's picking up here in east Arlington, near the Deathstar. Not huge flakes.. more of a light shower. Visibility dropping.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
722 AM CST FRI FEB 4 2011

.UPDATE...
RAN A QUICK UPDATE TO ACCOUNT FOR CURRENT TRENDS. RAISED THE
MORNING POPS WHERE A BAND OF MODERATE SNOW HAS SET UP WEST OF
FORT WORTH. THIS BAND IS SLOWLY TRYING TO MOVE EAST INTO THE
METRO. HOWEVER...THE BACK EDGE OF THE CLOUDS /CLEARING LINE/ IS
ABOUT TO ENTER OUR WESTERN ZONES AND IS RACING TO THE EAST. IF
THIS LINE CONTINUES ITS PACE...WE SHOULD SEE CLEARING SKIES ALONG
I-35 AROUND 11 OR NOON. THIS WOULD BE GOOD NEWS AS THE SUN MAY WARM
TEMPERATURES INTO THE LOWER 30S AND WOULD MELT SOME OF THE SNOW
AND ICE. FOR THE FORECAST...BUMPED UP HIGHS ACROSS MOST OF THE
REGION AND WORDED THE CLOUD FORECAST TO LINE UP WITH THE CLEARING
LINE.

Not going to warm out of the 20's today....

I had very tiny flurries here at 8:15. I only noticed because I was looking at my black grill on the patio. I'm sad we got ice instead of snow.

What a bummer I hope the sun doesn't come out this soon. It can melt tomorrow but I want it to stay today! :(
