Returns coming southwest of DFW. Think the area is going to slowly light up the next couple of hours.

Aren’t the radar returns north of Del Rio bound for the Metroplex’ish? Looks like a lot of moisture.

I'm glad some of y'all are enjoying the snow. I hope we get some on Thursday as a parting shot. It's looking a little better on the HRRR.

In the meantime, I am closely watching temperature trends for the ice storm about to impact SE and East Texas. It's going to be just epic for some folks to the North and especially NE of here. We are right on the edge. A serious demarcation between ice and rain, and thus, the accumulation totals. The HRRR keeps going back and forth between a little ice nuisance and the ice storm apocalypse for me in southern Montgomery County, so it's just waiting and watching the temperature/dew point spread until it starts falling down over here.

36 hours with no power-

We were able to secure a hotel near the airport for 3 nights..hopefully it will be over by then. This has been an absolute nightmare. Thankfully I was able to get the city to shut of water to our house on Tuesday, just in case. When we left home it was 48 inside the "Tent" room we built in our living room by nailing sheets to the ceiling. We ran out of firewood. Put the whole freezer outside on the patio and half of the food from the regular freezer in a laundry basket in a car in the garage where the temp consistently said 8 to 13 degrees. We are at an extended stay type hotel so we were able to bring a lot of food with us, too. I'm sure our pool pump/pipes are toast. Hoping we will get some kind of disaster relief...I know there are lots of people in a worse situation than we are

Right now snowing pretty good near the airport.

00z hi-res guidance looks good for DFW other than the 3k NAM, which is pretty much own it's own at this point with the DFW dry slot. Now to see what actually happens.

Just started snowing HEAVY here in Temple. 20 degrees. Snow almost sounds like rain when it hits the ground. :froze:

EDIT: Nevermind. It just changed to sleet. It was snowing for a little bit then it transitioned. :spam:

It has been snowing heavily nonstop since about 3 in Wichita Falls. Mets said we have had around an additional 7 inches today. It is finally slowing down now.

Here in the next hour or so, possibly hour and half the radar is going to fill in from Central Texas to North Texas. Start off light snow then become moderate to heavy at times. It will snow through the early morning hours through mid morning.

One thing to watch as the surge of warm air (850mb) tries to lift northward. Be at the boundary (just north enough to stay snow) might be able to squeeze a lot of qpf.

Again it is very unsual to snow with a SE wind. I can only recall 2010 as the one storm that did it here.

Do you know how long this precip will last in Central Texas? And is it going to change over to freezing rain?

I think north of the Austin area will be sleet. Once you changeover to sleet, it will likely stay sleet since there is warm air advection above 925mb. Precip from this should go down there until about late morning.

It’s all how you look at it. I’m just hit the jackpot right before bed and am in the 10% of my day that I do have power. So I have a really short time to fill all the bathtubs, boil pots of water, turn on the ovens while open, and run our space heater so that we don’t freeze the the rest of the night.

I am grateful for what I just got but if you are willing to switch places with me I will gladly exchange for a “oh no the power is out” moment

Oh an please bring me more snow. If I have to go through all this I would appreciate that radar to finally fill with some more DFW snow to look at while my house is freezing tomorrow!

Love your enthusiasm. Lets deliver. Starting to fill Tarrant county, this is it lets go! 850mb front lift ftw.

Not sure exactly how much yet as it’s still snowing but we easily have well over a foot on the ground. I’ll get some better pics in the morning.
