Wichita Falls/Abilene are more likely areas for a freezing-drizzlemaggedden Dallas area is not cold enough.
I would hesitate to say the "Dallas Area" is not cold enough? So people are aware temps across the West and North part of DFW are at or below freezing and bridges are becoming icy. "Dirzzlemaggen no, but still use caution" .
On the Wundermap mostly 32's and 33's in Northern Tarrant, closest to me is 32.1. Below 32 seems to be north and west of a Fairview-Argyle-Azle line at this point. I'm thinking for today the Metroplex should be just wet.

Weatherbug has keller at 27, nrh at 28 & Fort Worth at 30. We will see the next official nws observations at 11am
edit : if recent trends continue, wouldnt be surprised to see tarrant county added to the freezing rain advisory at 11.

This is one of the reasons winter storms can be so interesting to me. Temperature differences that would be meaningless any other time of year are critical during winter. Hope everyone out that way stays safe today and as it spreads east tonight and tomorrow.

Fort Worth meacham drops off to 31, dfw drops to 32 & fort worth alliance steady at 30.. fwiw even Dallas is reporting freezing drizzle and 32 degrees.
Just and fyi, 32 is also the melting point for ice.. Not a lot of ice accumulates at 32 degrees, esp on streets, but in the advisory area temps have dropped to the mid-upper 20's

Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX 1058 AM CST MON FEB 10 2014 .UPDATE... THE FREEZING LINE CONTINUES TO SLIDE SLOWLY SOUTH AND WAS NEAR A BROWNWOOD...STEPHENVILLE...FORT WORTH TO BONHAM LINE AT 10 AM. ALTHOUGH THE DRIZZLE HAS BEEN LIGHT AND SPOTTY IT HAS BEEN ENOUGH TO CAUSE SOME ICING CONDITIONS GENERALLY NORTH/NORTHWEST OF AN EASTLAND...DENTON...TO BONHAM LINE. THE INITIAL THINKING WAS THAT TEMPERATURES MIGHT MANAGE TO WARM A FEW DEGREES TODAY WHICH WOULD KEEP MOST OF THE AFTERNOON PRECIP FROM FREEZING. HOWEVER...CURRENT ANALYSIS AND MODEL OUTPUT SHOWS CONTINUED COLD AIR ADVECTION AND NEAR STEADY TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. THEREFORE...WE HAVE DECIDED TO EXTEND THE CURRENT FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY FOR THE NORTHWEST ZONES THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE ADVISORY WILL LIKELY NEED TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MUCH OF NORTH TEXAS TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY SINCE TEMPERATURES WILL FALL A FEW MORE DEGREES OVERNIGHT AND PERIODS OF DRIZZLE WILL CONTINUE. AT THIS POINT IN TIME WE DO NOT FEEL AMOUNTS WILL BE ENOUGH TO WARRANT A WARNING. HOWEVER...SINCE LARGE SCALE LIFT IS PROGGED TO INCREASE OVERNIGHT/TUESDAY...THERE IS A CHANCE OF A BRIEF PERIOD OF SLIGHTLY MORE PRECIPITATION WITH SOME LIGHT SNOW POSSIBLE IN THE NORTH AND A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET FARTHER SOUTH. WE WILL LOOK AT MORE DATA BEFORE MAKING ANY FINAL DECISIONS ON AREA AND VALID TIME OF ANY TYPE OF NEW ADVISORY OR WARNING.

Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
Tough Forecast!! Short Range and non-American models are much more aggressive with QPF amounts across North Texas later tonight....showing > 0.10 inch sleet/freezing rain. I would suspect WWA to be issued this afternoon for a wide area of North Texas for tonight/early Tuesday morning. With temps in the upper 20's later tonight, things could deteriorate quickly if qpf amounts reach what some models are depicting.

You have to look at more than the total altititude. The highest mountains in the ouachita range, are in the 2500-2700 ft range above sea level. But they have a relief altitude(which is how high the mountain is related to surrounding general land altitudes) of 1900 to 2000 feet in many cases. This causes their mean altitude measure to not be much less than you would see in colorado where relief alititudes are generally somewhere in the 2000 to 8000 foot range.
Therefore they have a significant impact on shallow artic air masses, not quite to the extent that the rockies do. Because the relief altitude is higher in the rockies, but they do, for instance pikes peak is 14100 ft, but is only 7500 ft. relief altitude from the surrounding geography in colorado springs.

12Z Euro now showing QPF amounts anywhere from 0.2 to 0.3 inch liquid equivalent across a wide area including DFW....this event is getting much more interesting!
