Over here on the SW Coast (Naples/Ft. Myers) they are really downplaying this storm and it's affects here. Hope they aren't sorry.

I couldn't agree with you more, Tracy.

I guess we just have to wait it out until more info becomes available.

jp - from what I've been seeing, Norcross is saying it's still too early to tell for sure. With each advisory, there has been a slight climb north, albeit more to the west, but with every bit north, more and more of S. FL can come into play. I think the 5pm advisory will be the most telling, but that's just my opinion. I do know that with his wind graphic, if Rita takes the middle of the forecast track, tropical storm winds will be throughout Miami-Dade...if it takes the more northern side, it will be worse, obviously.

Tracy and LSue:

I haven't seen anything during the day although I'm taking a TV back to the office soon. This morning, NBC with Jim Syeon really downplayed our area. I almost called the station to ask them to yank him off the air. Noticed at 7:30 he had been replaced. He has no business being on the air as a "Met". Has an AA in English as his credentials for the morning weather person and consistently makes light of every system. What a joke.I switched over the CBS abd ABC and they were a little more informative. Heck, if I didn't know better, I would have thought there was no chance of us feeling any effects from Rita.

Thank heavens for S2K!!!!

Lynn

PS looks as if we have some bands ready to come into our area in the next hour and it is breezy.

Hey Lynn and Tracy,

I am sooooooooooooooo with both of you on this one. Don't you feel like you live in a bubble sometimes? Thank goodness for you guys, STORM2k as well as Brian Norcross on WFOR live feed:

http://wfor.dayport.com

Brian provides professional and thorough evaluations as well as interviews with NHC gurus like Max Mayfield. (The 1:30 pm interview was extremely valuable.) Without these tools, I'd feel almost completely shut out from these developing (and potentially dangerous) storms!

Ft. Myers won't get much. So if he was downplaying Ft. Myers he may be right.

Fort Myers is within the 3-day cone. Is there anything in particular you don't understand about that?

Agreed, Twister.

Hopefully a minor brush with wind and rain is all we get. However when you're in the cone, you expect the best information available from your local sources to help plan accordingly.

All we're asking for is balanced professional timely info that is appropriate to our areas. I'm not asking for storm hyping, but I do expect that any possible negative scenarios be given appropriate attention.
