i'm a little bit worried over here...I live one street away from an elmentary school thats having built a cafeteria...the problem is the have one of those huge crane things and i can see it rocking back and forth...if we get this kinda of wind and all that ice that crane may go down and we may lose power

In the morning AFD it was supposed to hit Dallas around 2z, which is 8pm. It came through my area around 6pm, so that makes it at least 2 hours ahead of schedule.

Yeah and just a few days ago this front was just barely going to clear Houston and Austin and it was not going to be that cold. Wow...how things have changed. May be JB will be right when he said "encased in ice and snow".Portastorm wrote:I'm wondering about us in Austin now. NWS Fort Worth at 6:30 pm says the front will near a Lampasas-Waco line by 9 pm. That'll put the front near Austin by 11 p.m., about 3-4 hours earlier than progged.

Extreme, you might be right ... you just might be right!

I kind of laughed JB off earlier this week but this front means business. I know we all will be eager to see the 0z model runs tonight.

He is saying that this will not be Texas' last shot of cold this winter...and he says that the I-20 corridor should expect a huge ice storm. He also says that this front coming down the plains reminds him of the superfront of 79'. He did not mention Houston in his post though...but he said he will post more about the southern plains ice/snow event tomorrow. He did mention though that many places in the plains are going to be seeing some of their worst late season cold EVER and that this cold will beat out the early December cold by A LOT (overall). Hopefully he will mention our area more in-depth tomorrow.Johnny wrote:Speaking of JB, what has he said today about this possible event?

ya know looking at things more EWG, i think houston does have a shot at a some ice and sleet. a minor accumulation maybe? because yall just missed out on dec.7th, yall were a couple degrees too warm and the air will be colder with this time, i still wouldnt get your hopes up that much though, i do think there will definetly be some sleet mixed in with the rain in southeast texas.. i think definetly the hill country, probably sanantonio and austin and maybe houston... Dallas will get severe icing and sleet from this... some of the maps show central oklahoma with nothing but a few flurries.. the winter storm watch is from sherman to Dallas to waco to texarkana....

yes...I was very mad with the December event. we had rain and rain and then cold rain and then that night we were heading toward 32F and then...the rain stops.plainsman wrote:ya know looking at things more EWG, i think houston does have a shot at a some ice and sleet. a minor accumulation maybe? because yall just missed out on dec.7th, yall were a couple degrees too warm and the air will be colder with this time, i still wouldnt get your hopes up that much though, i do think there will definetly be some sleet mixed in with the rain in southeast texas.. i think definetly the hill country, probably sanantonio and austin and maybe houston... cheesy notice how it says at least a quarter of an inch of ice ya know they didnt say what to. there could be 1-4 inches of ice and sleet. ill make an early prediction and put money on them upgrading the winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for North Texas. ice and sleet starts up fri evening fri night, sat, sat night sun sun night and mon morning, thats like 3 days of continuous ice and sleet and snow, man it could get really interesting... ya im going to be on this winter storm like a hawk tomorrow...

4 inches of ice could only happen in an ice age. But sleet seems to be a bit more "puffy" like snow so a *combined* 4 inches of ice and sleet wouldn't be out of the question, eh?
