The forecast shows this storm slowing as it heads north, I think the timing is probably pretty close to right. I do not thing that Gustav will continue to gallop along at 16 mph.

Max flight level winds were 91 kts in the NE quad. The pressure rose 2mb to 962 and the eye is open to the SE and elliptical, per the latest vortex.

Gov Bob Riley has issued a Mandatory Evacuation of all Mobile County residents South of I-10. They are saying Mobile Bay could have a surge of anywhere between 8-14 FT.

This could, and probably will batter Dauphin Island.

A few minutes ago there was a news report that additional mandatory evacuations had been ordered for SE Texas along the coast, which is completely puzzling to me, since all hurricane watches for Texas have been dropped.

Hopefully shear will tear him apart and just be a rainmaker and some wind for the coast.(Wouldn't that be sweet)

Yeah I hear Hardin County Texas now has mandatory evacuations, but where are you seeing that warnings have been dropped? I see the same TS Warnings & Hurricane Watches for southeast Texas that have been up all morning.

Gus didn't take much advantage of those really warm waters and has moved NW of them, maybe he won't intensify much more before landfall. Let's hope.

um no , she is right of those points,(11 am point is 25.3/ 86) well NE of the 2pm point on your map, and as you can see in the graphic (given the 11 am point) she is now moving over the northern extent of the loop, (but true she didn't take full advantage)

NHC still predicts Cat 4 strength between last offshore forecast point and landfall

DWG one thing to note as well, He is running about 3 hours or so ahead of those forecast points...I can easily see landfall in about 24 hours. (specially if he dosn't slow down)
