Looks like we have finally switched to all snow. We received about .75" of mix before switching. It is piling up quick now.

Snow has ended at #DFW Airport. After midnight, 0.9" fell. Storm total = 3.4". Greatest event total since Feb 2010. #dfwwx #txwx

The 2.5 inches at midnight was a record for March 4.
DFW is now at 5.7 inches for the season. What a comeback.

WHAT A WEEK :)
After that bust for our area last wed and all the other 33 degree cold rains.. just what a way to potentially end the winter.

Saw it all in a week. Freezing rain, sleet, snow, blowing snow, cold rain. Tonight's event would've been really awesome during daylight but we probably would've lost an inch.

I have an inch of snow in the last 15 minutes and we are still in the heavy band. SHV really dropped the ball by forecasting just half an inch total.

Yeah I think Friday's event could have equaled tonight at night too...

I'm perfectly good... for my first winter in Texas it sure finished on a high note.

I'm ready to break out the shorts and not be cold anymore.

But no rush on those 100 degree temps :P

:uarrow: We usually get a freak cold snap around easter. That's probably the last of it, then it's MCS season!

Update from FW twitter

The highest snowfall total so far reported across N Texas: 7 inches near Hwy360 and Hwy121 in Grapevine. #txwx #dfwwx

That is literally just a few miles from the measuring spot at DFW (north end). Amazes how it always is a little less there than surrounding areas, but of course they measure it religiously compared to our rulers.

Once again, North Texas and the Metroplex get all the good stuff and fun and Austin gets screwed. What a colossal epic fail. We must be cursed. #worstwinterever

Over 2" so far with another inch plus from the current band likely to come with the bottom layer being mixed precip and no upgrade to a warning or even an updated forecast beyond half an inch.

Snowmageddon jr! What an epic event for DFW. Close to 6" here. Easily some of the heaviest snow I've seen in my life. 2nd most snow I've seen in DFW behind snowmageddon sr. The question now, as ntxw mentioned, is how bad temperatures are going to bust. With this snowpack in place I have my doubts that we will get above freezing for very long if at all today. The real kicker for me is how low will we go tomorrow night? With high pressure settling in, clear skies, light winds and a fresh snowpack it seems like a recipe for rapidly plunging temperatures. I expect teens but could some places hit single digits? In March??? Time will tell

The radar shows the snow well to my east but it is snowing here. Wonder if it will continue long enough to create additional accumulations. All in all a very impressive storm that kept everyone on their toes. Amazing to have consecutive years with major March winter storms followed by teens. Also today marks 11 consecutive days of me seeing snow or ice on the ground, I think you can assume tomorrow and Saturday will add to that streak so it will be almost 2 weeks.

Brrr it's cold. Time for some Spring like weather that lasts more than a day or two. And to think we've been talking about winter weather since mid November across Texas!

Portastorm, I really am sorry that this storm failed to deliver the goods for ATX. Personally, I wish we could have somehow pushed this storm in your direction and found a way to give the PWC headquarters and ATX a good event. I'm sorry that it didn't work out, even more sorry that the models teased and didn't deliver. :(

We went through a snow drought up here in the 1990s and saw very little snowfall for a number of years. I remember waking up so many times feeling genuinely disappointed and frustrated - for me as a winter weather enthusiast, for my elementary school age kids, etc.. So I do understand your frustration.

One day it will change and snow will return to Austin. Until then, there's a ton of us on this board that are pulling for you. This winter. Next winter. And the winters beyond. Hang in there my friend. You have a friend - actually, many friends - up here in North Texas.

Thank you for your thoughts and comments. I feel like I speak for all my fellow S2Kers in the general Austin area, that we are all well aware of how difficult it is to get true winter weather in our locale. That's why when there's a threat of it happening, we get excited. For us, it's not enough that we haven't had anything in four years now ... but when all of the tools/models point to something happening and then it doesn't pan out at the last second ... well, that's a real Lucy pulling the football on us. It's pretty freakin' cruel. And that has happened several times this season. It would have been better if the weather just wasn't promised to begin with.

Last night I got a bit worried when I saw the HRRR stopping precip in our area just after midnight. Sure enough, the HRRR was on to something because that's what happened. I cannot explain why it happened. Dry slot? Trough vorticity ended up further north and clobbered you guys? I dunno, maybe. Doesn't matter now. We're left with that bitter taste again in our mouths. And as it turned out, NWSFO Austin/San Antonio was well reasoned to be conservative and cautious about this event. Unfortunately for them, they went "all in" yesterday and the forecast busted. Up until last night, even the models said it was a sure thing ... well, all of them except for King NAM.

That's all I'll say. Hope you guys enjoy your snow and sleet. Glad someone at least is getting it.

Haven't gone out yet, but it's at least 2" of white stuff, maybe 3".

This was supposed to be redemption. I have lost some faith in the snowy snow happening in Austin. Latest snow in Austin is March 27th, 1930. The air and the storm were not our standard. One day Porta...One Day Soon....

News account from Austin, Texas: "The land of the oleander awoke yesterday morning [February 15] to find itself under snow to the depth of about four inches on a level and with snow still falling. In places the drifts were over two feet deep and the oldest inhabitant was unable to recall such a snowfall in this part of Texas... At this hour the depth of snow on the level was said to be about six inches deep and many drifts were reported two- and three-feet deep, something no man remembers to have ever seen here before."

I haven't gone outside this morning (IT'S TOO FREAKING COLD!), but I did let my dog out to use the restroom. Judging from how high the snow went on his legs, I'd say we at least got 3 inches here. That's an official measurement, btw. :P

I wish I could give at least half of it to Porta. I know how you feel. We've all been there.

Light coating of ice with a bit of sleet on cars and elevated items.... what a waste! I have lived in Austin since 1997 and have received under 3" of total snow for that entire time period. Eventually, it will happen!
