Is anyone else seeming to notice that the winds keep picking up and dropping off again? It's like we are stuck right in the edge of that eyewall. It looks like this is the case on radar, too. In the meantime, it just looks like northern Okinawa is getting hammered by strong bands.

Just have to say how enjoyable it's been tracking this storm with all you "local" guys on here - feel like I'm one of the gang! Hopefully Muifa won't cause much damage here on Okinawa or in China, but so far it's been an amazing storm to track and an even more enjoyable one to get into (despite its longevity which is starting to wear me out!)

Aw, we like having experts to hold our hands through this whole ordeal!! And I felt all "cool" b/c I was watching CNN and there you were!!! Someone I *know* (as far as you can say that these days) -- can't thank you all enough for the advice and guidance. It's hard when you're used to US media coverage and then you get here and think "ok, great...I'm relying on the force support squadron's home page and the big giant voice to keep me safe??!!" -- so we appreciate you!!

The feeling is mutual, James! We love having you as part of the Okinawa gang. If this storm ever ends, all of us should reserve one of the big tables at Arin Krin and consume massive amounts of garlic since we won't be stuck inside stinking anyone else out...and pints of Orion all around! Or maybe I'm just craving good food! I don't think I will come back home for a week after being cooped up this long.

(cute accent, btw - we americans tend to think everyone should sound like us, and I too, was surprised to hear your accent)

Thanks for the kind words earlier! Glad you managed to catch the segment. Pauline's great! :)

I thought it was smart of you to end each statement with "Pauline" so she would know you were done and not just getting cut off by crappy phone service...LOL! We have to do that with the cellphones here b/c they drop calls left and right

This just in from Kadena weather:

The latest update from Kadena weather. Looks like we may go into TCCOR-1 Recovery sometime around 9 p.m. If that happens on-time, you still have to remain indoors while emergency crews assess damage. -- Mizuumi

Say what?! We're not quite out of this yet! Who the heck they got forecasting over there?

Where is that? I haven't been there. Always up for somewhere new! I think it would be a blast. First meeting of Local Okinawa Storm Trackers (LOST)...or some other clever acronym that I'm nowhere near clever enough to come up with in present state of pent-up anxiety.

I have to give credit to the people on Kadena Air Base's Facebook page, they are questioning authority and actually telling the page administrator they do not think going to Recovery, at this stage, is a bright idea. :ggreen:

After rising slightly, the pressure at Naha has fallen again according to JMA. This is interesting...

I know! Someone just posted that we'd be going to recovery at 9pm and all I could think was "WTF???" -- see James, we NEED you!!! ROFL!!!

Infidoll - sea garden is at the very southern edge of the seawall - upstairs from sunset music and downstairs from Infinity bar/grill. It's beautiful and their food is amazing. You can sit outside and watch the sunset (we did the other night!) --

And LMAO about LOST -- I have ALWAYS said this island is like LOST -- $hit happens here that would NEVER work anywhere else in the military -- whenever we throw our hands up, the next line is "well, I guess the island wanted it that way" -- either that or "where's the friggin polar bear?"

I just got "cored" on my way back from Family Mart with 2 cans of Orion and some fried snacks. Yes, it's picking up again here in Naha too :P Radar shows we're all getting creamed right now!

Would you believe I completely missed the boat on that show? I never watched it...and now it's all out on DVD anyway so I think I'm going to go back and watch all the seasons. For some reason, I watched all of Twin Peaks not long ago. Were we all smoking something in the nineties? Dancing midgets, talking backwards? Anyway, I'm getting off-topic.

This elliptical eye is cracking me up...winds gusting over 80 mph then back down to gusts in the 60 mph range. That's just funny...at least it would be if it weren't happening right over us!

It's okay! Don't worry...Kadena Air Base says we'll probably be going to Recovery in 20 minutes! Hahaha

I feel sorry for whichever of their admins made that statement because you know they are never going to live that one down.

Winds back down to about marginal gale-force, with gusts just above storm-force. Still a potent storm though.
