Eye seems to really be opening up in that loop as it nears NC coast, but that might just be the effect of the shadow formed by sunset

Long time lurker here. Can someone explain why the radar does not show the rain on the east side of the eye, but does show storms in the bands the same distance away to the north, south and west of the radar station?

Long time lurker here. Can someone explain why the radar does not show the rain on the east side of the eye, but does show storms in the bands the same distance away to the north, south and west of the radar station?

The radar doesn’t reach out that far. Bands come into view as they come into range.

Wobbling around, hopefully it does indeed stay offshore Wilmington.

Heading NE, could see a potential landfall somewhere east of Morehead City

Completing a left wobble. See water vapor loop. Probably no landfall here as the coast curves back north.
Perhaps at Cape Lookout or east of there.

There are probably some 65 mph winds in those feeder bands, you can hear them coming.
Check out the velocity vector lengths..

Definitely took a big jog north. Might still miss but it's gonna be close. Hurricane force winds should be hitting the shore soon.
