@ Aric. Does it look to you that the inner eye has started to gain more wrapping convection over last couple of frames as the outer eyewall contracts? Seems to be more reds around the inner eye as well as thickening on last couple of scans. Really weird.

Maybe both eyewalls continue until they meet in the middle and join together resulting in a very thick conjoined eyewall

It looks that way to me. The inner wall is folding into the outer wall, and the outer is contracting at the same time. JMO

There certainly appears to be less empty space return on radar inside the outer eyewall. Looks like the inner wall has less room now.

Just heard on WFTV live streaming, Cocoa Beach is shutting off water to the barrier islands as of 6. They are trying to protect the infrastructure. They are recommending that if you stayed, to fill whatever you can with water. It will be turned off until further notice.

yep...you called it Aric..wish some on this board would follow your advice. I notice the outer eyewall is also becoming more elliptical - perhaps the first sign it is contracting.

And the hurricane is still hours away from landfall.. I'm still here in Jax near (but not on) the St. John's River riding the storm out. I still hope we don't get hit bad but it's not looking good atm. Our Mets here are good and they do not make the rash statements that some poster's local Mets say. Stay safe to everyone in the path.

Latest HRRR still showing a landfall around Martin/St. Lucie County line.

Side note about the game. SHAME on the University of Florida for NOT postponing or moving the game yesterday. I can understand not wanting to play in Baton Rouge but that was downright reckless of the school to proceed as usual.

So far observations don't support any weakening, it's handling this EWRC like a boss so far. Unfortunately in this case, that is a very bad thing.

On visible and IR is looks very very healthy right now.

For those saying all clear and this is over; Read this just released by the NWS Jax:
(PDF)
http://www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf

I have not seen language such as this in a NWS product very often if ever.

This is the REAL deal and lives are at stake. Quit with the hypothetical guesswork.

Got a question for the pro mets. After an ERC, does the new eyewall always end up larger than the original eyewall once it has completed the cycle? Or can the eye contract to the same size?

Historic. Outside of the now-famous language from the NWS New Orleans office during Katrina, I've never seen anything like this. It's a great and informative presentation for sure. But talk about sobering ... my goodness.

I'm guessing not many people in the area have natural gas? I'm hoping they also shut that off or that homeowners do. I remember all the homes that burned down on the Jersey Shore following Sandy due to gas leaks...

Sustained tropical storm force winds are still offshore but they will be pushing in during the evening.
