Likely at Cat 5.
That poleward outflow channel had a big part in strengthening this.
Didn't see many of those this year.

I was laying in this exact same position on my right side of my body, in this exact same spot on my exact same couch, drinking the same exact beer watching this IR for Eta two weeks ago thinking it was finally it for the most part this season...

Life is strange yall.

Iota looks like a textbook perfect hurricane right now. I remember people saying that Delta would most likely be the last big storm of the season. Then we had Epsilon. Then Zeta. Then Eta. And now Iota... What a season.

^ It looks to me alot like Hurricane Rita still. Sure Katrina was the more devastating storm and Wilma the more intense storm, but Rita had arguably the best presentation out of all of them. I think Rita held on to her intensity alot stronger than even Wilma until a trough to her west over Texas thankfully helped weakened her further after her EWRC.

Like I posted yesterday....Iota is perfection in weather terms....but after that....Iota is bad news

Very little doubt that Iota is a CAT5 at this point. Probably going to be a high-end one.

Except that Iota and Eta are both likely to end up stronger than Emily and Dennis. Eta was already deeper than Dennis in terms of pressure even without a CAT5 upgrade.

An ERC at landfall can’t be rule out but there’s really nothing to stop it from intensifying in the mean time. Eyewall is thick and big enough to prevent an outer eyewall from immediately taking over.

Spiral banding. Concentric eyewalls would be more “thick” than the inner-eyewall. This one is consistent with the rest of the banding and outflow. If anything it’s a sign of continued deepening as the eyewall becomes more thick and resilient.
