Breaking News:

As of today March 3rd, not only the highly unusual wxman57 posts, we have managed to surpass the highest number of pages held by a winter (2009-2010). That year stopped at 477 we currently sit at 481. This is the most any Texas winter thread, or any thread winter related. Congratulations to all who participated on the achievement to stamp this as a legendary winter and hope it will inspire lurkers to join in!

Good info to see ... thanks. Definitely worrisome ... by the way ... my earlier reference to freezing rain as "fun" -- the word was put in quotes for a reason. I hate ice storms. Was a sarcastic reference. So I'd rather not have that 4 1/2" you're wishing on Austin. I'd rather have the omega block.

Jeff Lindner's 10:00 update:

Winter Storm Update (1000pm)

Lindner, Jeffrey (Flood Control)

High impact ice storm likely.

Radar continues to show extensive rapid development of moderate to at times heavy freezing rain and sleet from northern Harris County westward to west of San Antonio. With surface temperatures already at or below freezing across areas along and north of I-10 freezing rain and ice accumulation is likely.

Given increased duration of the event in combination with heavier precipitation rates requires the adjusting of ice amounts into the .10-.25 inch range along and north of I-10 with isolated amounts possibly as high as .30 of an inch. Continue to be worried about the incoming convective cells and their ability to put down some really good freezing rain rates.

This will cause significant travel impacts across all the warning area starting within the next few hours and lasting well into midday Tuesday. Travel by Tuesday morning will be extremely hazardous with ice likely on all bridges and overpasses and even some surface streets.

Ice amounts may be great enough in isolated areas to result in some loss of tree limbs and power lines leading to isolated power outages.

I just wanted you to share in on the fun. If the latest HRRR is correct, I imagine there will be some power outages in the Austin area, although not as significant as it would be uphere in NE Texas where there is a lot foliage.

If I am looking at that correctly and it verifies, it could be very dangerous for this area.

Update:
Thunder and freezing rain here. Took dog out and felt ice forming on patio furniture and roses...on March 3rd.

They just said on news that after March 3rd if there is ice in Austin tomorrow, that will be the latest for Austin to have an ice storm since 1930!

Is this mainly going to be a freezing rain event with a few pockets of sleet? Of course I'm hoping it's going to be mainly sleet but it doesn't look like it's starting out that way.

WV loops show that the ULL is still digging but seems as if it's about to stop soon.

Temps Stabilizing 34, if not warming slightly with the onset of rain. Car surfaces glazing over with ice.

Same here in SW Austin although I don't see signs of anything freezing yet outside. Occasional lightning and light rain here.

Thunder/lightning has stopped in SW Houston - think it's passing a bit to the north of me.

The temp here went from 32 to 33 and ice on my grill has melted, may see saw back and forth around freezing for awhile.
