I know rainy season starts around May 17th, but since its been tinder dry here will it start later than the normal date. I'm thinking aound Memorial day timeframe.

Mid May.

I'm sure of it. April is never our month.

April showers bring May flowers? Hah...

April droughts bring May severe thunderstorm warnings.

For Pinellas it is usually about june 10. areas over the interior usually get about a 2 week head start on us. it makes for really nice beach weather but we are quite parched around here. no significant rain since the heavy rain event at the beginning of april and nothing in sight which is normal. one thing i have noticed... the gulf temp along the shore is cooler by several degrees vs this time last year. should that persist it could actually delay the onset of the rainy season here as it would make for a more vigorous seabreeze that would punch inland farther and faster taking the rain chances with it.

Dewpoints have been starting to creep up for the last few days here in South Florida...seeing high 60's to almost 70 degree dewpts...inching us closer to the summer season, including the rainy one

Today was very summerlike...the dewpoint was at 67 degrees. From here, it won't take much. Depends on if/when we get any more drying fronts.
