basically the holiday celebrates a victory of the Mexican forces over the French in the Battle of Puebla.

Basicamente las vacaciones celebran una victoria de las fuerzas mexicanas sobre el frances en la Batalla de Puebla.

It's often referred to as Mexican Independence Day, but that's actually September 15. :wink:

I was in Mexico May 5..in Tijuana, Rosarito, and briefly in Tecate', and it didnt seem much different from my other 2 visits.

I stayed in San Ysidro, California. (on the border) and there wasnt alot going on there either. Or maybe I just needed to get away from the tourist areas.
