There were rumors that the onset of the disease (dementia) started during the last years of the Golden Girls.

I loved that show. She will be missed

Awww, I'm so sad reading this. Estelle was great as "Ma/Sophia" - playing a character far older than she was in real life (in fact, Estelle was only 1 year apart in age from Bea Arthur!). She was hilarious, very quick with the wry humor bit.

We enjoyed the Golden Girls episodes. There was just something that appealed to many age groups, that surprised you when you discovered other fans that were in your age group (at the time, our 30s!)......
