Cheers to Tio Ed and Tia Chavela on 50 year anniversary.

My wife's grandmother's brother, actually, we call him Tio Ed. His wife, Tio Chavela, except I found out tonight her name is actually Isabela. 50th anniversary party at the Azteca Ballroom.

They look awfully young, and dance quite well, to have been married in 1958.

Weird coincidence, my wife and I had been married a year, first time we left our newborn alone with mis suegros, went to Las Vegas six weeks after 9-11, stayed at New York, New York, and ran into Tio Ed and Tia Chavela.

Anyway, chicken cordon bleu, cash bar, free keg beer, mariachis early, DJ late, and when they played cumbia music, my six year old daugher and I tried to "Baile como Juana la Cubana", even though the Kumbia Kings are Texans (Mexican-Americans).

As an Anglo, I was a bit of a minority, but the extended family has other Anglos, Asians (Vietnamese-Americans, I think, but I didn't ask) and African-Americans. American dream, really.

I'll be 86 when I've been married 50 years. Doubt I'll dance that well, even if still alive.
