This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Fed up with classification...

#1 Postby shortwave » Fri Aug 14, 2009 6:01 pm

if a storm has a closed circulation, warm core, convection, winds at 25 knots and above it gets classified, it is defined that way by those who make the call..when a system meets those qualifications then classify it regardless of location.
for the current two systems not to be is a redefinition of the protocol thats supposed to be followed.
yah i know frivilous but something that always stuck out and pissed me off.

You might try reading the definition of a tropical cyclone more closely. First, it's "organized deep convection", not just convection. Second, it's "closed circulation about a well-defined center". And third, the wind speed has nothing to do with it.
