Alex Interesting facts
What a way for the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane season to have it's first system having some history. IMO,the scientists have to do research to see some of the interesting aspects that Alex had.
1-The lower pressures were common of a system in the Western Pacific not for one in Atlantic.
2-Also the size of the circulation is not common for an Atlantic basin system.
3-Alex became the first hurricane in June since 1995.
4-First hurricane in 2004 and in 2010 with the name Alex.
I have those four but if anyone has more interesting facts about Alex, dont hesitate to post them.

Re: Alex Interesting facts
It would appear that Alex began developing in the eastern extension of the North American Monsoon Trough. That would explain both the lower pressures and larger circulation.

Alex had the 2nd deepest pressure for an Atlantic system in June behind Audrey from 1957.

Now probably is the strongest category-1 hurricane that is below 30N surely and not inland?

Makes sense. Wilma formed from a monsoonal trough, which would explain the lower than normal pressure it had.

Re: Alex Interesting facts
Incredible run at the last minute by Alex to become a major but came short.A few more hours over water for sure would reach that. But Alex is in the history books and the facts will keep adding up to the resume.

Actually Bonnie did it in 1986. I believe that was the last one.
.... Alex is the latest in a string of consecutive Western Gulf storms to make their landfall at peak intensity....aside from Rita which I consider to be more of a Northern Gulf storm.
Claudette....Emily....Humberto....Lorenzo....Dolly....Ike.......even Dean was on the rebound when it made its second landfall. It's interesting because it stands in stark contrast to all the storms that peak well before landfalling in the Northern Gulf, even though overall they tend to be stronger up there.
Of course the past few decades saw storms like Beulah, Allen and Gilbert which all miraculously dropped from Cat5 to Cat3 just prior to landfall on the western shores of the Gulf, so it could just be a coincidence for this last decade's storms.

Kyle, I think you're missing a key word in your post!
I think you mean first landfalling JUNE Atlantic hurricane since 1972. But I wish what you wrote were true!!! If so we would have been spared the likes of Katrina, Andrew, Ivan, Ike, Rita, Wilma, to name just a few...!

If you placed Alex into the 2008 season and made it a 17 storm season...Alex's pressure would have put it in 4th place, only just behind Paloma which got down to 944mbs, with 2nd place to Gustav (only 941mbs...not as deep as I thought!) and Ike which was down to 935mbs...
So actually Alex was only 11mbs behind the strongest system of 2008...
