I still think Fabian's likely a fish but there are some startling similarites between the track of floyd located here http://www.hurricanes98.com/Floyd.html
and Fabian. Fabian is at 45 west and Floyd was at 45 west and Floyd hit the mainland. Floyd was forecasted to turn north because of the EC trough but didn't and pressed west much farther than it was supposed to. Fabian is still moving West. And the EC trough for Floyd was much stronger than the one we have forecasted now and Floyd still struck the U.S.
Floyd also rapidly intensified the same way as Fabian did today.
Could Hurricane Fabian be the same as Hurricane Floyd?
Hurrricane Floyd=Hurricane Fabian

interesting...
Yet it's a bit too early to speculate on that possibility. But the east coast does has threats with this. The most likely threat is higher than normal waves in the form of dangerous swells by the middle of next week. However direct impacts are possible, but that still needs to be determined later. However this will likely be a weather story for a while given the potential increase in strength. I wouldn't rule out Fabian being the first major hurricane of 2003 coming up in about 3-4 days or so.
