Pensacola/Gulf Breeze area

#1 Postby cag1953 » Sun May 04, 2014 8:38 am

The Pensacola/Gulf Breeze area was hit very hard with massive flooding. They are waiting on a disaster declaration from the President,so Fema can come in.We were lucky.Had about a foot of water in our garage and screen room. A half inch more and it would have been in the house. Our next door neighbor had water all through their house. Some areas right around the corner from us still have high water. Go to Pensacola News Journal and Weartv3 to read some amazing stories and see the pictures. They were doing water rescues during the storm in northern Escambia County where they were rescuing people out of their attics.Gave me Katrina flashbacks!

Yeah, that was an amazing event which occured at Pensacola this past week. A stationary front combined with an upper level disturbance converged right over that area to bring the torrental flooding rain totals.

This is the second time in 3 years in which the Pensacola area has seen an extreme flood event. The Pensacola Regional Airport also had 13 inches in a 24-hour period on Jun 9, 2012. They have indeed been hit hard recently for sure.

Not a good scene at all!! I talked to friends there who had flooding in their Mom's house, but not theirs and saw pic of my old house on Fairpoint surrounded by water. Just absolutely surreal and devastating!! Hope that declaration comes through soon!!

Have observed these training type events many times along the gulf coast. All depends where the line hangs up. Hopefully the folks over the the Pensacola area can get things back to normal....MGC
