Wave south of C.V. looks better organized.

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Wave south of C.V. looks better organized.

#1 Postby tropicsPR » Tue Sep 02, 2003 8:59 pm

At 1:00 UTC the wave south of the C.V islands seems to be getting better organized. I notice some cyclonic circulation. Any opinion ?

You're not seeing things....you're exactly right ... it has cyclonic turning, a well-defined mid level circ.

NHC noted that the easterly trades have been strangely weak in that area but should get a kick soon and begin to get the waves moving again.

Yes that is the wave to watch in comming days for sure as it is at a low latitud and it will have less influence from upper features more to the north.

Sure it look's better organized, and definately has some turning. Also is far south than Fabian when it was over that area. However, it's very far away and many things can happen to it. For now it's time to observe it and see what happen in the next couple of days. Btw, last models run keep the system on a general westerly track far south of the track of Fabian. So keep an eye on it. Time will tell! :D

Has a Chance to make GOM

#6 Postby KatDaddy » Wed Sep 03, 2003 6:13 am

Yeah I know its a long way off, but it does have a chance to the GOM in a 10-12 days out. Just about the time the EC trough lifts and a new trough sets up in the W US

Still looking impressive this AM. The convection has persisted with the southern wave much more so than the other. Eventual TD is a very good bet. Question is who's on first..CV or Caribbean? :grrr:

Similar to 1996

#9 Postby Willow » Wed Sep 03, 2003 8:01 am

Hurrican Fabian reminds me of Hurricane Eduardo. Eduardo formed during the last few days of August 1996 and was kept out to sea by an east coast trough. While Eduardo was moving off to the north, Fran, who slammed into NC as a CAT 3, appeared near the CV islands. Hmmm.....Fabian is moving off to the north and a wave is showing promising signs of potential development near the CV islands. Could we be having a repeat of history?

It's possible, but for your sake I would hope that history does not repeat itself. This wave does bear watching, though.

Is it me or does the Tropical wave south of the Cape Verde Islands have less thunderstorms associated with it than it did about 6 hours ago as well as the one about to emerge from Africa within the next couple of days.

Yes! I''ve been thinking the same thing. Very similar path. Eduardo was a bit closer to the coast and resulted in the Bethany Beach patrol closing the beach on Labor Day that year :(
