Rainfall will slowly weaken today as air mass has been worked over by the early morning activity.
What does this actually mean, describe in weather terminology for me please.

Lots of thunderstorm activity in a area will often leave the airmass overhead more stable after the thunderstorms dissipate. The thunderstorms transport heat aloft, which makes it more difficult for a parcel of air near the surface to rise and produce additional rain. This increased stability after a rain period can persist for a number of hours.
