Intense Cyclone in the Labrador Sea

#1 Postby WaveBreaking » Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:08 pm

A deep cyclone is currently peaking just W of Greenland. OPC analysis has this at 937 mbar, and ECMWF analysis shows a swath of hurricane-force winds near the center (partly due to forcing from the Greenland coast.

The cyclone is currently in a Fujiwhara interaction with a weak surface low from what’s either an older cyclone or a mesoscale vortex formed from shallow convection over the ocean.

The cyclone is directly connected to the Tropospheric Polar Vortex lobe over Hudson Bay that was giving the Eastern US cold air in January.
