Tropical Disturbance SW of the Galapagos

#1 Postby WaveBreaking » Thu Feb 27, 2025 1:11 pm

There’s this small ITCZ spinup just south of the equator that’s been producing some solid deep convection since last night. Euro and GFS analysis show a closed circulation but very weak winds. Nevertheless, still cool to see, and it reminds me of Cyclone Yaku from March 2023, which brought devastating flooding to Peru.

The waters there are supportive of tropical cyclone development and are warmer than average due to weaker trade winds.

The disturbance lost most of its deep convection overnight due to shear, so it probably peaked yesterday.
