I feel like we could see a subtropical junk storm with the positive SSTAs in the central N. Atlantic and the -NAO models are showing.

I was initially leaning towards zero but this is actually sound reasoning given the SST profile is quite different from this time last year, and yeah, during -NAO you can't discount the possibility of a cutoff low making a (sub)tropical transition under those circumstances. So what the heck, I'll say we get one.

Voted zero, the majority of Mays do not have any (sub)tropical development in the Atlantic basin

I truly hate seeing any slop gale-center having sub 50mph winds (typically well removed from the center) get named. My brain says there'll be at least one of those.... but my heart keeps saying :na:

Guess I'm going with none

Morning GFS spins up subtropical slop in 12 days well North of Puerto Rico. Otherwise, the models look quiet.

It seems to me, thinking back to 1997, El Nino seasons can produce early systems. No El Nino, so several early systems of sub-tropical origin aren't likely

I'd put the over-under at 0.5 and I'd take the under.

Hello everyone! I read that there may be something brewing down in the Western Carribean, from the CAG? Possibly a broad low? So I choose 1 storm may form during the remainder of May.

I don't think the enso has much to do with whether there's early season subtropical activity. 2020/2021 produced loads of early season slop and those were la nina years.
