This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Its getting ready to start raining

#1 Postby seahawkjd » Wed Sep 17, 2003 8:16 pm

I'm probably about 10 miles west of cape lookout so we should get some pretty intense weather here tommorow. I have a good charge on my laptop and a weather station so I'll post what we get if I can. Right now the local nws is calling for us to get 100 mph winds but I'm several feet above sea level in a sturdy house and trees hopefully won't be a problem (we cleared out the problem ones after Floyd). Anyway, I'll post when I can if anyone is interested and try to get some pictures up to. I pray no one is hurt by this storm.

Will be interesting to see the differnce between what you get there and what we get here. I am out at fairfield harbor in New Bern. Weather Station is set up and have back up power source as electric goes down with a blink of an eye here. I have started a topic going called New Bern, NC meets Isabel already started that I am updating.

Light rain from the first feeder band is starting. Winds are fairly light right now of course, gusting ocassionally up to around 30. I'm sure the weather channel guys will have plenty of fun with it if they can find some sea oats to stand in front of to make it look dramatic.

Just as i read this, a woman from Channel 11 is standing in front of sea oats with her hood on her head swaying back and forth..... wow, LOL

I've always found it funny when they do that. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they will have to look for sea oats and puddles to get their dramatic story this time. Rain is starting to pick up some here. Local met said the storm is projected to make landfall at harkers island which is practically withing seeing distance from here, just really really really hoping it stays east or on Morehead and not west We have a resteraunt that sits out over bogue sound in Morehead and a storm surge through there would not be good. The building codes are slightly different now then they were in the 60's when it was built. Interesting fact though, we have hatches in the floor of the resteraunt that we open so that the building will flood instead of being lifted off of its pilings should the water rise that high.
