11 pm edt 8 pm pdt Hurricane Marty

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Sat Sep 20, 2003 10:02 pm

Marty is now a hurricane in the eastern Pacific just south southeast of the southern tip of Baja California. A hurricane watch is in effect for southern Baja California from Bahia Magdalena southward on the west coast and from San Evaristo southward on the east coast. The hurricane watch maybe replaced by a hurricane warning early Sunday.

At 11 PM EDT 8 PM PDT, the center of now hurricane Marty was located near latitude 18.8 north, longitude 108.7 west or about 420 miles south southeast of the southern tip of Baja California.

Marty has not been moving much over the past few hours. However marty is expected to move northwest slowly tonight with a gradual increase in forward speed through the next 24 hours. This track would bring Marty near the west coast of southern Baja California in about 36 hours.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast over the next 24 hours.

Minmum central pressure is now 987 mb or 29.15 inches. Hurricane force winds extend outward 175 miles from the center while tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 175 miles.

Hurricane force winds extend outward 25 miles from the center, tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 175 miles.

Sorry for the error. Been a long 36 hours here in maryland. I'll show the surge flood pics tomorrow on the web.
