Isabel flooding pix from WREL

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Mon Sep 22, 2003 7:07 pm

If interested, here's the first batch of Izzy flood photos from the Lexington/Rockbridge County area of Virginia. Photos were taken around sunrise on Fri 9/19. For reference, this is ~60 miles north of Roanoke, VA, in the Shenandoah Valley along the west side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hoping to get some aerial chopper pix uploaded in the next day or so.

As an aside, there are still some people living in the area of these photos w/o roads, water or electricity. They are staying because of looting, which is rather sad for this area. I think they should do like Dade County after Andrew...spray-paint on their homes: Looters Will Be Shot.

Even this far inland, the flood areas are still in rough shape. Supplies and water are urgently needed b/c everything is going to tidewater and Richmond and the folks over here are getting everything from local donations. Understandable, but unfortunate.

Perhaps 1"+ RA and 30-35MPH winds tonight coming with FROPA. No rest for the weary

I travel through Lexington once or twice a year, and stay overnight (At the Hojo's on the hill off I-81) because of the beautiful view. What a shame to see all that flood damage. Good luck in the cleanup efforts up there and everywhere else affected by Izzy.

Thanks for posting those, Scott. Isabel definitely caused some major damage in a lot of places.
