Do you take flu shots???

I have never taken a flu shot.

No... I usually have a bad reaction (went 4 years.. every year got sick... not going again!)

I've thought about it...especially since I have asthma; but so far haven't....

Fortunately, I don't seem to catch colds/ flu easily (everyone in my family has recently suffered from a bad cold, two of them pneumonia in recent weeks...and other than a toothache, I've been fine....not even a sniffle).

Besides, one of my late great uncles had a flu shot every October after turning age 60 -- yet he seemed to be sick more than anyone else in the family.

I get really sick when I take the flu shot....I'm taking my chances.

YES, sure do. Let me paint a bit for all you doubters (doesn't apply to those that have reactions to the shot).....

Winter of 1993/94. Had a new K'er that year and Laura at home, age 2. I came down with the flu. Fever for 8 straight days, chills, aches, terrible cough. Went to my doc early on, hoping he'd say it was something like a sinus infection, and I could could get antibiotics. Nope, he said it was a good old fashioned case of the flu. And I should have taken a flu shot. He said to start the following winter and never skip a year. Okay, back to the flu. It went on for 3 straight weeks. Hubby could not leave work Mon-Fri, so here I was with 2 kids, Nina half a day back then. I'd lie on the couch and they'd come up to me, Mom are you awake? I think she's a asleep, they'd whisper. I said oh no, just closing my eyes. I'd call hubby - please come home, my temp is 102! He just couldn't. So long story short, those 3 weeks were sheer torture for a stay at home mom with little children, I had no help. I came - this close, hold fingers very closely together - to having it go into pneumonia and ending up in the hospital. Doc said I was one of his patients he was watching closely. Guess I had youth on my side - I WAS in my 30s then, very different from your 40s, LOL - somehow I got thru it.

I have had a flu shot each and every year and even managed to find them the lean years. Hear they're plentiful again, so I'm not worried.

But I will never skip my annual one - doc said they build on last year's shot. Or something like that. Extra protection.

PS - Linda, you just posted after me. My kids get them too - Nina has asthma and used to miss many days of school each year. Doc said she really needed to get one, and now he recommends Laura get one since we found out she has ADD 2 years ago (I'd hate to see her get behind and miss a lot of school too). Hubby is the lone holdout - if they're plentiful, he'll get one. If he has to stand in line at Kroger's, for example, he takes his chances.

Bonnie... have you ever had a bout with the flu? I have and was in South Carolina visiting my best friend when I got sick. I never ever want to experience something like that again. I remember telling myself that I would rather be in labor!! It was so bad, my whole entire face was swollen and I looked like a Cabbage Patch kid for about a week and a half. So, the following year I went and got the shot. My kids do too.

I am one of those wimpy people who hates being stuck by a needle. The worst part of going to the dentist is not that they might use a drill - it's the novacaine needle!

That being said, I have gotten a flu shot each of the last 3 years - in spite of my fear of needles. 4 years ago (winter of 1999-2000), I got a bad case of the flu and was sick for 10 days. The first 4 days I could barely move and had a fever over 103 degrees. It is by far the worst sickness I have ever had. The memory of it is more than enough to make me overcome my fear of getting a shot!

Yes, I have had the flu once or twice and was very sick with it but I am still willing to take my chances.
Just don't like flu shots

Maybe when I am older I will reconsider.

I was never a fan of the flu shots untill 4ys ago , and was sick with either cold or flu all winter. Didn't want to spend another winter like that ,so bit the bullet & take the shot . Haven't even had a cold since. Guess I'm believer of them now.

I understand where you are coming from Bonnie. I just do not like being down that long. Or should I say, can't afford to be. The fear of the shot only lasts for about 3 seconds right before it is given and then it is over. lol.
