#1 Postby cycloneye » Sat Nov 15, 2003 4:30 pm

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/11/ ... index.html

The investigation is underway to determine what cause those choppers to collide.Apart from the 12 dead 9 were injured so another sad incident in Iraq involving the US force and my prayers go to the families of the people who were killed.

It seems by the time our presence over there is finished...they'll be hardly anyone to bring back home alive. My prayers and thoughts are with their loved ones. :(

Skywatch,I agree; we may wind up with a much diminished male population before this war is over. Will it never end?

As terrible and sad as this is, accidents such as these happen at home in training also, it really can't be blamed on the mission in Iraq.

I am not trying to take away from the tragedy of the incident however.

405,399 American casualties in World War II. 109,958 American casualties in Korea. 58,199 in Vietnam.

America's Wars Total
Military service during war 42,348,460
Battle deaths 651,008
Other deaths in service (theater) 13,998
Other deaths in service (nontheater) 525,256
Nonmortal woundings 1,431,290
Living war veterans 17,578,5003
Living veterans 25,038,459

All so you can say the peacenik hyperbole you have posted here. I wish that no soldier died ever, but they are there for a purpose that most Americans feel is important. Negatism will only serve to lower morale and give aid to our enemy who knows that America runs when casualties get too much to stomache.

In order to get out of Iraq we have to have to restore order there and until a new goverment is established the US will have to stay there and in the proccess sacrifice will come painfully. :(

Whether we did the right thing for the right reasons, the wrong thing for the right reasons, or the right thing for the wrong reasons, we are in Iraq.

And while most would agree that you can't simply be passive as the world plots against you, it seems on these days that it would be easier to get out and come home than to stay until some order is restored.

There is a at least a reasonable chance that Iraq will be able to hold together a new government with self-determination as part of its future. But it will never be our 51st state, and it cannot be all things that our government would want it to be.

Mostly, it will take decades, maybe centuries, for the hatred and killing and raping and brutalizing to stop, if even then.

I can tell you that most men and women who are there STILL believe they should be there. They see the faces of those in need. They do what they can to improve their chances.

Our presence is needed for a while yet to give self-determination a chance. But indeed there will come a time when we must exit our military stance and work to sustain a diplomatic and social presence with other countries from around the world.

Unfortunately, in the meantime, this is a war and our sons and daughters will remain at risk in doing what they believe in.

i question if we have the stomach to win the war on terroism. if we lose this war no american anywhere will be safe. i cant beleive so many people are ready to roll over to terrorism and accept defeat.

While nobody wants deaths, we do have to finish business in Iraq, set-up a stable goverment and train a military/police force. The insurgents can't defeat us militarily so they hope inflict enough casualties to make us lose the stomach for our mission. Like Stormchazer pointed out the casualties of this conflict are far lower then suffered in past conflicts. Cutting and running before the job is done can't be an option:):)

There is nothing wrong with wanting peace; I will never apologize for that.

...but wanting peace at any price...is wrong and is why we had 9/11.

Nobody wants anything else but peace! Your point about us having a much dimished male population was just way overstated and not supported by the facts ..

How does wanting peace cause 9/11?

Peace at any price means you won't even defend yourself when attacked. The 9-11 attack was just the culmination of many years of doing nothing when we were attacked.

To hear people talk, this war needs to go on and on and on....Servicemen are beingl killed every day, and if the war lasts a long time, guess what? A lot of men will not ever come home. Why is everyone in here so touchy about the fact that the dying continues? To me, every life is precious and whether 20 or 20,000 die, it is a tragedy.

This is a war, people die in war. However, if we turn tail and run like cowards a la France, those people will have died in vain and that would be traitorous on behalf of the gov't. We at least owe it to those kiled and wounded, as well as their friends and families to get nothing less than complete victory

A soldier from MS was killed in that crash too. He was from the 4th Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division. We had two killed aboard the Chinook. This is the eighth soldier from MS to die in Iraq.

These soldiers who have died protecting our freedoms should not be dishonored by telling us to tuck and run.

If something had been done a long time ago Sept. 11th would never have played out for those cowards. The attacks on our people have been happening for far too long!! We endured 8 years of these attacks with nothing done about it!
