Busiest Shopping Day of the Season
And its not the day after thanksgiving!
Saturday, 22 Nov 2003....
Since all the men are out hunting, the ladies have a day of SHOPPING! According to researchers here in Green Bay, this weekend is by far the busiest shopping day of the season. Most ladies start early and gain their years worth of exercise in one day!

Interesting story Shannon. Historically the busiest shopping day of the year is December 23.

That is a common misconception. By sheer numbers it is, but by sales it isn't. Retailers call it "Black Friday" because in year's past that day has brought them out of the red and into the black for the year.

Yes, Lake Effect1, around here it is the BUSIEST day, money wise and people wise. Maybe globally, or NAtionally it may be 12/23, but I am not convinced of that. Everything I've ever read or been informed of, it has been the day after Thanksgiving.

This statement also says that the day after Thanksgiving is a huge sales day, if retailers recognize it as bringing them into the black for the year, then that tells me it must be the biggest shopping day.
December 23rd may be the biggest shopping day for males, or is that the 24th....lol

From somebody that has been a retail manager for 15 years, I can tell you that the busiest day is the Saturday before Christmas. The whole "Black Friday" thing hasn't been true for a while now, as most people wait for their Christmas bonuses to do their major shopping, plus the advent of internet shopping has changed the shopping patterns dramatically. And yes, the days after Christmas are very busy as well, since poeple go shopping not only for bargains, but to get all the cool stuff they didn't get for Christmas.

Since you have been in retail, I have no choice but to recind my post and tend to believe your statement. I also believe that the internet shopping trend definately has changed things dramatically.
