Bush polling numbers rise to 61%

The polling numbers for Bush has risen after the thanksgiving holiday for 3 reasons:

1-Economy getting better
2-The medicare bill
3-The visit to Bagdad

It all depends on which side is doing the polling. While I do not dispute that his numbers have risen, I don't believe that 61% is a very realistic number. Since just a couple of weks ago, it was at 46% and less at times.

A couple of weeks ago he had not spent Thanksgiving with our troops in Iraq.

I understand that, but 61%? I have a hard time believing that. Of course the pollsters were slanted to the right, which is fine. But what I am saying, if the left were to do a poll, his rating would probably be a bit lower.

Polls are taken among people of all political affiliations and are done the best way possible taking people of all parties and backgrounds.

That may be so, but depending on who is polling, numbers get skewed. For instance, I received a call not that long ago wanting to ask me questions regarding the political candidates in our area. The first question I was asked is to what party I am a member of if I was a member. When I told them to what party I was affiliated (Independent) I was told, "well thank you for your time and have a good day", and they said goodbye without asking me any questions. Now, tell me that that was a fair and unbiased.

Sure, Tim, that phone call you got was unfair and unbiased.

The bottom line is, the polls that do not take into account individuals political affiliation are better than those that do... so the chances of the results being skewed are lower.

i like bush, but i hope he is not making decisions based on poll numbers. if he is doing what is right, i dont care if 25% approve of his job performance.

I'm willing to believe the numbers based on what I heard Saturday night. I was out with my best friend and her fiance (who usually both roll their eyes when I say anything in praise of Bush). They're both Democrats (as is most of Galveston). A handful of their friends and relatives were also there. The news came on and I pointed to the TV and asked if they'd heard about the trip (since they just got in from being in Dallas for Thanksgiving). I couldn't believe what I heard. Everyone was saying things like, "Oh my God, that was so awesome!" and "He just moved up in my book. That really made a difference to me that he did that. I think that really was good for those guys." and "He's a brave man. Can you just imagine what those Iraqis thought when they found out!"

Yes, you would because if the poll numbers were that low then there is a super chance he would NOT be reelected. I am sure you would rather want Bush than any of his Dem. rivals. And when the Presidents say they don't pay attention to polls I find that very hard to believe.

Yes the presidents pays good attention to the polls and that is why you see at certain times campain ads comming out as they see the polls not to favorable to lift the president again at the polls.

Yes... so did I. And it was done by a conservative representative in my area. How do I know? Listen to a sample question or two they asked me:

*Don't you think your current representative from the 7th district is doing a good job?

*Do you approve of the controversial partial-birth abortion?

I thought the survey was a joke... and I actually kind of like the guy.

I think people are in a good mood because it is the holiday season, which helps to bump up the approval numbers.

Well, I can see his number dropping becasuse of the idiotic decision to lift the tariff on steel imports. WRONG MOVE Mr. Bush. IMO

We have one of the largest reserves of taconite (used to make steel) in the world here, and our government is doing all that they can to get their steel from foreign sources.

I am glad to see his approval rating rising. I need to take a visit to my local Republican office and pick up a Bush/Cheney sign. I proudly support our President!

I don't, I hate the man with a passion. There is no way in h*ll I'll be voting for Bush next November (made that mistake in November 2000 and have been furious at myself since then). He's burned too many bridges with other countries, lies to get what he wants, and is all too willing to inject his bigoted and discriminatory views into the US Constitution. I don't believe for one second that his tax cuts helped revive the economy and there is no doubt in my mind that his trip to Iraq on Thanksgiving was viewed by he and his insiders as a perfect way to improve his image among the American public. Do I think he had good intentions for the troops as well? Yes. But it's a small morale boost on his part after sending our troops all the way over to Iraq without any sort of realistic vision on how to handle the country after the war had ended, particularly when he seemed to think that we and Britain could handle it on our own without the help and aid of other important countries in this world. Now our troops just continue to die because of that disregard.

I've had serious thoughts of moving to Canada to get away from Bush if he wins again next November. Give me liberal Canada over the conservative US any day. Hopefully though people will come to their senses and see our country is in a much lower position in the World than it was 4 years ago and realize that we need a fresh new person to take us in a different direction..... an upward direction.

(sorry to speak on such a tangent, particularly since I'm fairly new to this board, however this president is one of two topics that really make my blood boil)
