Forecast Map for Sunday-Monday

#1 Postby Stormchaser16 » Fri Dec 12, 2003 7:30 pm

To start off, the blue area is the all snow area. The yellow outlining is the areas which i feel have the best chance of being the highest snowfall totals(6+), that is not to say that other areas will not receive signifigant snow. Areas outside of the all snow area, will receive 4-8", except for central Oh west which will see 2-5", east Ohio 3-7".

Now the forecast gets tricky. The purple area is the area which will start as snow, with accumulating snows on the order of 3-6" before changing to sleet then freezing rain. Signifigant icing is possible in this area as temperatures remain borderling freezing mark. The southern portion of the purple area will also then change over to rain. Snow on the end side of the storm with an additional inch or so may be possible.

The peach area is the area that will be snow(1-3") to start then change to rain. No signifigant icing is expected although a period of sleet or even freezing rain is possible before the changeover or a snow rain wintry mix in SNE and interior portions of the peach area. Additional snows are expected with accumulations on the backside pushing 2-4" in SNE, not much more in other areas.

And then the green area explains itself.

Highest bust potential is in SE PA where precipitation could change much quicker to rain without sig. ice, and then New jersey which could very well changeover to rain or a mix in northern areas much faster then currently expected.

I must also thank DafWX for helping with the creation and drawing of the map.

Tonight i am becoming increasingly more concerned that flooding will become a huge problem in New jersey and the big cities possibly. We have extremely saturated ground, and when snow falls in some areas and changes to rain, those areas will see major flooding issues. I was waterlocked the other day with the rainstorm, all roads with surrounding water were flooded and the basement cant handle much more water (sump pump cant work miracles). So for those areas that do changeover to rain from snow on Sunday and Monday, be on the lookout for flooding issues.

Good map, although fairly conservative in the areas N & W of the major cities and in the interior areas of PA up through New England.

I will be on line to give my report for the southern portion of the circled area. Here's hoping for a "snow day" on Monday.

Just to check in: There are no major changes tonight with the map, it looks to be in tune with what new model guidance is saying.

Map looks to verify greatly. Reports from ABE inidicate 4" already where I called for 3-6" in that purple area, northern areas of that purple area though may see more along the lines of 4-8" without compaction before sleet and rain. Icing is becoming signifigant here in my area in CNJ. Expecting a change to rain. Spot on forecast with about 3" so far here. Any other verifications i acn get on the map? Amounts in that yellow area like i said was the area that would have heavy snow, and i will now say that totals will exceed 20 inches in Northwest areas of that yellow bubble. Areas outside the yellow bubble will close in on a foot, except for the far western areas which will be around 6 ". SNE looks to change to rain without much signifigant icing, peach area worked well, not much icing before changeover in SNJ.
