Hmm guess that was an error, it sure feels cold out there right now compared to the near 80 degree temps we've had.

Yeh the reporting stations have had random snow reports for no reason. I've seen it at least 4 times in this state this winter with no clouds in the sky.

I can do you better. I was in St. Louis during the Fourth of July Weekend several years ago. On TWC, I saw one automated station somewhere in Illinois report SNOW. Yes, SNOW in July. Obviously, quality control did not exist that night!

There was snow in Meridian last night. Just like there were reports of sleet this morning in the Mobile AL area. Just cause it doesn't snow at your house doesn't mean that it's not 1 mile down the road .

OK. So I just looked out my window and assumed everyone in the state was seeing what I was seeing.

NO. You do not live here. I do. Excuse me, but unless you live here you can't possibly know, so don't say it was.

Secondly, if it snowed one single flake it would have been on the news. Trust me. It's the south. Even sleet pellets get on the news.

There was no snow here last night. Period.

I saw sleet this morning in this area and only 1 news channel said that it was even possible. Most of the weather people don't talk about Sleet and snow unless the temp is below 32 . Heck last year when it was 35 I called a tv station to report sleet and the weekened weather person said that I was lying and that it wasn't cold enough for frozen precip. I then walked out with the phone and said listen .
The Radar Echoes in your area indicated that there was precip in the area at that time . So it's anyones guess if it was reaching the ground.

There was sleet and snow in MS and AL last night so get over it .

Looking around, I've seen several references to light snow/flurries having fallen last night in central MS...both in/near Jackson and Meridian.
I think you're wrong and probably just missed it, sorry.

And I should remind you that the temperature at the time of the ob was 37, a dewpoint of 34 (both above freezing), and notice how the report only lasted 10 minutes (was replaced 10 minutes later with another ob).

In addition, as for snowfall, not even a trace was recorded here.

It was a mistake in the obs here, end of story.

As to the sleet in Mobile, well I find that a little hard to swallow. Not very many people down on the gulf coast know what sleet is, apparently. I've known many times in the south where people will call up the news stations to report a single sleet pellet or snowflake.

I've also known many times when people get it wrong, and what they think they see isn't a snowflake or sleetdrop at all.

One time I was outside with a group of friends, it started drizzling just a little bit and they swore up and down it was snow or ice. It wasn't. But they would keep arguing that it was... even though the temperature outside was around 45 degrees...

You're in Maine. I've looked up and down the news reports here. I live here. My family lives here and in Jackson.

There was no snow.

I'd like to see one of these 'reports' you have...

Also, how come someone who lives in Maine, and Alabama, thinks they know what happened here compared to someone who actually LIVES HERE.

I do know what I'm talking about here.

a friend in Newton County ms just told that he saw a few light flakes last night.

He said that he would have taken some pics but the flakes were very small and the wind was blowing at 20 mph.

Sorry that you didn't get snow . You will have anouther chance to see frozen stuff next week .

Are you sure that it wasn't sleet or snow at 45 ?

Christ, people are seeing things. I will bet 100 bucks it wasn't snow.

People see wind damage all the time, they think it's a tornado.
People see what they want to see.

I guess you're going to believe UFO sightings now too, eh?

As to the 45 degree, postive it wasn't sleet. I can't believe you think I'd be stupid enough to not know what liquid water was.

Sleet = you can see it BOUNCING. Liquid water doesn't bounce around.

And it's interesting how he conveniently didn't take any pictures...

Jackson, MS never reported any snow. FURTHERMORE the ONLY central MS station that reported snow was Meridian, for 10 minutes ONLY.

Meridian is not a monitored station anymore. It was monitored for decades by actual people but it is not any more. It's FULLY AUTOMATED.

Sensors do make some mistakes. They made it this time.

Now do you honestly think there would be a snowfall rate heavy enough to be classified as Light Snow for 10 minutes, and not even record a trace of precip on the books after the rain stopped yesterday?

The only way the ob could have remotely been correct was with an ob of "Flurries".

A couple of flakes is NOT "Light Snow". Those are flurries.

Newton also doesn't have a reporting station. Unless an official or storm spotter reported it, don't buy it.

Farmer Fred might see anything he want to see from aliens abducting his sister to snow in July.

I don't even have to mention the fact that our automated stations here DO make the light snow mistake. It has happened at least four times this past fall and winter, and we're talking some errors of Light Snow reports where places 30 miles away have temps in the 50's or 60's.

Sleet just South of Mobile AL now

Dudely, those maps are automated. They automatically shade different areas with respect to the temperatures and the dewpoints. In addition, just because it might be on the radar, doesn't mean it's actually falling.

That could be Virga, dontcha know.

Look at the PINK near MACON, GA: Macon is at 41 degrees. That is a little warm for sleet. I don't care that the dewpoint is at 28, even if it was that only means it has a better chance of evaporating before it hits the ground.

Ice can evaporate before hitting the ground you know.

*sigh*
