Events you never miss!

#1 Postby azskyman » Thu Jan 08, 2004 7:43 am

It's 2004, and the calendar of events from Valentine's Day right on through New Year's Eve start all over again.

Each of us, and each of our families look forward to certain events, times, visits, vacations, holidays, traditions, etc., that become part of the year.

Just curious what events shape your life in a typical calendar year. Is there a family reunion you never miss? A week at the cabin that is already planned and on the calendar? A girl's weekend that never gets missed. A ball game that you always go to? A place for a birthday party that has become a tradition?

Now that we live in Phoenix, one tradition is ALWAYS attending at least one Cubs spring training game. This year it will be on March 13th. And we always make a trip back to Illinois to see our family and friends after the winter winds down.

There are more things...but I'll add to the list a little later. How about you and/or your family?

We never miss Jim's family's annual reunion in Kentucky. It's usually the first weekend in August. That's a lot of fun. Our kids look forward to that more than our summer vacations!

Past few years I've tried to not miss our Church's annual women's Fall Retreat. I had to skip it last October, since Jim was out of town. For me to still go, it would be have become so complicated. I decided to pass. I would have had to farm everybody out - dog too. But this retreat is so laid back, cheap too - only $75! Just 2 nights and days, simple accomodations but it's a nice break for this mom.

Our kids various recitals and concerts probably don't count, but we never miss them either.

Next!

I always look forward the our annual trip to Albq New Mexico in October. First off, to celebrate my bday at Gardunos (best mexican food rest. in the world IMHO)...secondly, the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival and driving to Taos, Santa Fe to purchase fresh hot chilies, apples etc, grown along the Rio Grande!

Since we have only been here 3 years, its a bit of a short time to set up traditions. However, every Christmas we have been here, we have driven up to St Augustine to go and see Night of Lights.. its absolutely fantastic! The whole town and bridge are covered in christmas lights, the town hall looks spectacular. That is something I dont want to miss ever, its just breath taking.

Opening day for the Phillies. My wife and I have gone to this every year since 1994.

Christmas at my Mother's. Celebrating my birthday or one of my brother's birthdays at Mom's as well.

Each year I've gone on some trip with my friends. We're planning another one right now, perhaps for the end of March in Ft. Lauderdale. It's nice to have something to look forward too!

Every summer, coppertop goes to visit my sister, Jan; Debi never misses her family "reunion" (five county's worth o' kin) at about the same time.

I miss everything.
