Very Light Snow, from Partly Cloudy Skies in N VA right now

#1 Postby Anonymous » Sun Jan 11, 2004 5:26 pm

I was going out to pick up the Chinese food we ordered here in Woodbridge/Dale City, when I noticed the flaming red sunset and all the shaggy hanging virga, from stratocumulus, stratus, and altocumulus clouds covering approximately 60% of the sky. The sunset really illuminated the virga.

To my utter startled surprise, light snow began to fall. What looked like very small graupel snow pellets fell onto my car. I counted thirty or so of them on my car top. They looked nice and white as they fell from the partly cloudy skies overhead.

It was 27 degrees with a dewpoint of 8 degrees.

WOW.................................could this be interpreted as a good omen of a big snow in Wed night/Thursday?

Well, I enjoyed the unexpected snow.....................and I can always wish :)

Jeb, I was looking at that same brilliant red sunset and wondered if it could drop a flurry- I guess you answered that. General Tso's chicken?
