URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 7
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
455 PM CST THU FEB 5 2004

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

CENTRAL AND WESTERN ALABAMA
SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
SOUTHERN AND EASTERN MISSISSIPPI
COASTAL WATERS

EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 455 PM UNTIL
1100 PM CST.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 1 INCH IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS
TO 60 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 65 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST
OF A LINE FROM 5 MILES NORTHWEST OF BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA TO 55 MILES
WEST SOUTHWEST OF HOUMA LOUISIANA.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS.

WATCH NUMBER 6. WATCH NUMBER 6 WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT AFTER 455 PM

DISCUSSION...THREAT FOR ISOLATED TORNADOES AND DAMAGING WIND
EXPECTED TO PERSIST ALONG VERY SLOWLY PROGRESSIVE BAND EXTENDING
FROM NEAR LFT NE TO W OF BHM. WHILE STRONGEST PRESSURE FALLS WILL
PROBABLY CONTINUE TO MOVE NWD INTO THE TN/OH VLY REGION AND BEYOND
SURFACE-BASED INSTABILITY AXIS IN WW AREA DURING THE NEXT 3-4
HRS...SATELLITE DATA SUGGEST PRESENCE OF UPSTREAM HIGH LEVEL IMPULSE
WHICH MAY ENHANCE SHEAR/UPLIFT OVER THE CNTRL GULF CST REGION LATER
THIS EVENING.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 1 INCH. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
GUSTS TO 50 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 400.
