BALI BOMBERS TURN ON REMOREFUL BROTHER

Bali bombers turn on remorseful brother

REPENTANT Bali bomber Ali Imron has pleaded with jail authorities to move him out of the prison where he is being held because of threats and constant harassment from his two brothers on death row.

Imron and fellow terrorist Mubarok both apologised for their role in the deadly attack on October 12, 2002, which killed 202 people including 88 Australians and now claim they do not want to be anywhere near the three who are on death row.

Both say the harassment is too much. They also want to be closer to their families in eastern Java.

Tulus Widjajanto, the chief at Kerobokan Jail where the bombers are being held, told The Daily Telegraph both men had complained of threats from the three condemned to death – Imron's brothers Amrozi and Mukhlas, and Imam Samudra.

He said the trio on death row frequently yelled insults at Imron, telling him he is coward for turning police witness and apologising for the bombing, thus sparing himself a life sentence instead of the death penalty.

Amrozi, dubbed the smiling assassin, is closest to an executioner's bullet after losing both his appeals to higher courts.

His lawyers want a judicial review, arguing retroactive terror laws are unconstitutional.

Amrozi refuses to beg for clemency from Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri.

Mr Tulus said the group had told Imron and Mubarok that when they died their blood would smell evil because they had turned their backs on martyrdom.

Mr Tulus has also asked other prisoners in the jail, many of them Balinese natives, not to harm any of the bombers.

Mr Tulus said he had not been consulted about when the death penalties would be carried out.
