... Winter Storm Warning this morning through early afternoon ...
Wet snow occasionally mixed with rain is expected to begin over the northwest Piedmont shortly before daybreak. Snow will spread rapidly from The Triad... Lexington and Asheboro east to the Triangle and Rocky Mount during the morning hours. Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces through early this afternoon. The wet snow may become heavy at times in the mid morning hours allowing for some accumulation on roads before melting this afternoon.
The heavier wet snow will taper off early in the afternoon with scattered light snow or drizzle expected to continue through the afternoon hours.
With ongoing precipitation... temperatures will hover between 32 and 34 degrees and some melting of the snow can be expected during the day.
Extreme caution is advised for motorists attempting to drive through the warning area today. Slippery roads and poor visibility are expected especially at the height of the storm in the mid to late morning hours. Postpone travel or allow extra time and expect travel delays if you must travel through the warning area today.
Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for further details or updates.
