Friday afternoon forecast thoughts...
Been on an instant message conference this afternoon with J.B. and Oldshue looking at the Saturday night/Sunday morning snow issue. It is beginning to look like the cold core upper air low will bring a risk of snow especially to parts of northwest Alabama. The greatest risk of accumulating snow will be from about midnight Saturday night through noon Sunday for the broad area from Columbus, Mississippi to Huntsville. One to two inches sure seem like a good bet, and some spots might get a little more. And, some snow is certainly possible as far south as Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Gadsden.
Surface temperatures will be above freezing, but just about the boundary layer the air will be very cold, and snow won't have much of a chance to melt. The surface temperatures should chill down and hold in the 30s much of the day Sunday where the snow falls. We will be posting J.B.'s afternoon forecast package in moments..."
