Early March Madness?

Signs look to be pointing to something BIG for March. 12z ensembles have an ominous look to them. Full lat ridging off the west coast, ridge east of the caspian, neg NAO signature. I think we'll be seeing one last big arctic blast before the winter is over and done with. Possibly a large scale storm to usher in this outbreak?

It's been a while since we've had a memorable March. Almost happened in '01. ;)

believe me...march 01 was the most memorable month for me since 1993:(

Man, that was a tough nut to swallow. I remember feeling so confident when I saw the European showing the same consistent scenerio for the fourth night in a row-- blasting the EC with a monster storm.

Tough times... tough times indeed.

I agree the potential is there for the end of February/early march. HM has done a great job seeing the from way back when. Kudos.

There is potential for a winter storm late next week, and then of course the first week or two of March seems to have quite a bit of potential as well. Now if we get to March 14 with no accumulating snow, then I will admit that this winter was not very good - and look forward to the first day of baseball season.

2001,eh? Give us the same storm, but make sure that it stays south.......

OR March 1960, 19.8 inches in Boston....

Being from Illinois originally, I used to love those times in March when the clouds were no longer horizontal, but actually vertical. A cumuloform mixed in with all that low stratus.

March was notorious there for lopsided change and major shifts. In fact, the heaviest single day snows on record occurred on the final days of that month.

I usually liked the weather better from mid April through May because anything would go then...snow, thunderstorms, winds, and wild spring cyclonic satellite images.

Maybe this March will be one of those. Seems to be a fairly active and meandering wave pattern to generate lots of storm potential from the Rockies eastward.

I have my fingers crossed for all of you.

As for me...here in the desert of Arizona, I would love to see some nice rains over the next few weeks...setting the stage for a vibrant springtime.
