the Standard Emergency Warning Signal before broadcasting the following warning.

TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 25
Issued at 1:00 am WST on Monday, 1 March 2004

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH
A CYCLONE WARNING for a SEVERE CATEGORY 4 CYCLONE is now current for coastal
areas between Roebourne and Exmouth. A CYCLONE WATCH extends south to Coral Bay
and includes adjacent inland parts of the western Pilbara.
At 1 am WST SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE MONTY was estimated to be
185 kilometres west northwest of Karratha and
170 kilometres north of Onslow and
moving southwest at 8 kilometres per hour.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Monty is expected to cross the coast in the vicinity of
Onslow later today. Gales with gusts to 125 kilometres per hour are likely in
coastal communities between Roebourne and Onslow extending to Exmouth during the
day.
Very destructive winds with gusts to 250 kilometres per hour are likely to
develop at Barrow Island this morning and in the vicinity of Onslow during
today.
Residents of Onslow are specifically warned of the potential of a very dangerous
storm tide as the cyclone centre approaches the coast.
Tides are likely to rise significantly above the normal high tide mark with very
dangerous flooding, damaging waves and strong currents.
Widespread heavy rain and further flooding are likely in western parts of the
Pilbara Gascoyne over the next few days.

Latitude 20.1 South Longitude 115.2 East.
Recent movement : southwest at 8 kilometres per hour.
Central Pressure : 935 hPa.
Maximum wind gusts : 250 kilometres per hour.
Severity Category : 4
FESA-State Emergency Service advises of the following community alerts:
RED ALERT: People in communities at Barrow Island should move to shelter.
YELLOW ALERT: People in or near the communities of Mardie, Onslow, Fortescue
Roadhouse, Pannawonica and Nanutarra should commence action in readiness for the
cyclone's arrival.
BLUE ALERT: People in or near the communities of Roebourne, Wickham, Karratha,
Dampier and Exmouth should be taking precautions.
The next advice will be issued at 2 am WST.

FYI... a category 4 in this region of the world is a cyclone of approx 930-955mb with winds of 165-225 km/h (105-140 mph). This would equate to a maximum category 2 to a minimum category 4 in the Saffir-Simpson Scale.
Currently, Monty is a 125 mph cyclone. This is on the upper-end of category 3.

Very Important
that you brought that out (I was about ready to dig out my copy of the Category definitions used by the Australians) since the Saffir-Simpson scale is really only applicable in the US though NHC applies it to the EPAC and ATL basin areas outside of CONUS as well.

Here is a great Resource for Australian Cyclones
This link show a listing of their Cyclone categories. On thing that stands is the fact they register the highest gusts instead of maximum sustained winds.
