While going through some old records, I ran across some commentary by Professor John Farrar (Harvard University) who took daily weather records at Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He observed that the coldest 7-day period there was that of January 16-22, 1812. The mean temperature during that time was just 1.5°.
FWIW, he also noted two of the coldest temperatures recorded there were:
-18°, February 15, 1817 (tied with all-time mark for Boston)
-16°, January 26, 1807 (would be all-time January mark)
