OV & NE Here It Comes! Winterstorm Watches GO. Thoughts

#1 Postby Guest » Mon Mar 15, 2004 12:09 pm

Well we now have full model agreement but for some areas like in the NE there is slight differences as far as temps go which could be huge for some and make all the difference between a 4 to 6 inch snow to rain and a 12+ all snow event which NYC and to a lesser degree Boston and the burbs west of Philly. Areas farther inland look to get pummeled from as far west as Iowa thru Northern/central IL, And along and north of i70 in Indiana and Ohio into much of PA (Except se PA) and into cnetral and SE NY (Except coastal areas) and nw NJ and all of sne except perhaps the coastal areas from the Cape down into s.RI. Amounts look to range from 6 to 10 inches in IL, IN And western OH to perhaps well over a foot from about US 23 East and i70 north in OH east into PA and then ene up to Boston. Areas Like Philly may see a 2 - 4 inch snow before changing to rain and then another inch or so of snow at the end. Baltimore and DC looks to get 1 - 3 inches before change over occurs with higher amounts to the nw of these cities and less to the se. These amounts in Philly down to DC could change if the storm veers any. Right now its still hard to say how much NYC will get because they are on the line and it can go either way i know they should atleast see 4 inches of snow.

As of right now there already is Winterstorm Watches flying from IA east into IL, IN, OH, PA, WV, W.MD, and NY.

Already this storm has dropped about 2 feet of snow in parts od SD, NE and Western IA so its a comming folks.

I will have another update shortly with a map pin pointing who will get what and how much.

Looks like the March lion is coming in a little later than usual.

I have rain/snow mix for tomorrow, high 39 degrees.

That it does Steph. Lion is roaring bigtime. I would say that you may get a couple of inches of snow yourself before the changeover to a snow/rain mix and then end with another couple of inches of snow perhaps. Its a very tough call where your at and any slight track to the south could give you a bit more of snow and any track farther north gives you almost nothing but like your saying with that rain/snow mix and no accumulations.

This will be by far the biggest snow for me all winter and perhaps more then i have seen for some years now depending on the final outcome....

BTW all i will take my crow MW. LOL Just what i get for saying winter was done with a week or so ago.

I like to listen to my wx band radio while ironing. Sounds wacky but it's a nice quiet time. Sometimes I pay attention, sometimes my thoughts wander. All of a sudden I heard this morning - freezing rain, chance of snow, 1 - 3 inches. Then as the forecast went further into the week, I kept hearing that s word - no silly, a nice word - SNOW!!!!

Talk about a time warp wx forecast! I thought for certain they had the wrong forecast, one they dug up from January. But no we really do have all of that in our forecast. Must admit I consulted several online sites and glanced here at our winter boards, before I really believed it.

And KOW, I'll really believe it when it sticks or causes traffic problems. Sometimes these storms just go north and Cincinnati gets rain. Very frustrating. Everyone is talking about it.

And finally, get this - one of my wacky neighbors already cut his grass!!! Can you believe that? LOL

Cutting grass huh?? . Well Mary all i can say for now is that forecast looks about right. Your on the southern edge of the wintry weather. Either way you should get something out of it before it changes to rain and then probably end as snow or a mixed bag again. Its a very tough forecast from Columbus (i70)down to there. The rain/snow/mix lines is gonna play havoc on amounts. South of the River i would expect to see little if anything in the way of wintery precip. Maybe some at the end but it shouldnt be much at all.
