RELAY FOR LIFE WRAP UP 2004

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Sat May 01, 2004 4:06 pm

Hello Storm 2k people.. I'm taking a short break from trying to get some beauty sleep to attempt to give you guys a wrap up of RFL.

The Relay began around 6:45pm Friday with the "Survivor Lap". The 1st lap of the marathon is always done by just survivors.

I began my relay shortly after 7:00pm. I had a partner and her and I jogged our 1st 5 laps. That made me crampy. But when I slowed down.. my cramps subsided. I took my 1st break around my 25th lap.

After my 1st break.. I went out and did about another 10 laps then took a 2nd break. During that 2nd trip, I had a walking partner who's a good friend of mine. We actually said prayers during our walking. It was kinda cute.. :)

On my 2nd break though.. I became injured  Me and a few friends were playing soccer in the infield and I used my back foot to kick the ball. I think that somehow made me pull something or twist it out of place. A friend of mine let me borrow his knee wrap and I'm still walking with a little bit of a limp, but it feels almost 100 percent.

Around 10:00pm or so.. the principal at my old school scared a lot of people off. He claimed he heard a report that nasty weather was on it's way. IT NEVER CAME. We had 1 squall line that sat on top of us from like 7pm to around 8:30-9, but that didn't stop me.. Me and my friends kept walking.

As Midnight approached.. I actually found a tent I could use. My friends that left thanks to the principals' warning, had also abandoned their tent. So I went ahead and used it.. :)

The overnight hours dragged. But I reached my 80 lap goal around 4:30am this morning.. :) I probably could have reached it sooner if not for my knee. I had a cheering section so once they knew I was closing in on my 80th lap.. They were pleased.. :)

At around 6:30-7 am the sun arose. I screamed obscenities at the sun because I didnt wanna see it lol.. Between 6:30 am and the finish I would do 10 more laps for a total of 90. My walking partner who actually left 2 hours early did 86.

Despite my knee issue and my occasional tears because of it and my stresses, I would say I had a fun evening :)

Final RFL Stats:
Laps walked/ran: 90
Miles Equivalent: 22 1/2
Walking Partners: 3
Goal Reached: 4:30 am
Laps after Goal: 10
Final Lap done: 9:45 am
Weather: Rain and Storms till 9:30pm, then cloudy skies rest of night, Freak rain shower around 6:00 am, then sunny skies till finale
Total $ Raised by everyone: $97,355

I'm going to try to go back to sleep or at least rest my knee a little more. At this rate.. I'll be up for the day @ Midnight and then I'll be wired for sound lol

Thanks guys.. It doesn't feel that sore right now.. and Yes exercise does help heal. Me and my friend were walking in the middle of a thunderstorm around 8:30 last night and we thought it was kinda cool. If we saw any lightning hit the ground though we'd come to a dead stop for a second to compose ourselves lol..

I came home around 10:30-11 this morning to sleep. Woke up around 6.. and tried to get back to sleep, but can't seem to do it lol. So maybe I should just try to wait till 11-midnight or so to try to get some more rest
